Star Academy vs. Saudi Arabia's "enforcers of virtue"
Star Academy is another annoying Arab reality show...however, it is fundmentally wrong to have patrols roaming the streets and shopping malls controlling how people greet each other...

If reforms are needed in the Middle East then Saudi Arabia will need a 90% share of those reforms...

The Egyptians will try to speak...
On the 27th of April, there will be demostrations in 13 different Egyptian governerates...for more details check this on the Kefaya movement website...

I dont think I will join...

I respect non-violent demonstrations and they make me feel good that people are out there speaking out for themselves...

However, I would not join a demonstration...I believe that this would outrightly make me stop being a "Switzerland"...I am definitely not a Switzerland but I would like to be thought of as one...Maybe because neutrality is a form of moderacy??

  I HATE SELECTION BOARDS!!!
During the week...I always look forward to the weekend but then not for last week...

It was the weekend of the confidencing and selection board of AIESEC AUC and I was representing the NC there...

Though I had no vote...I just felt bad and hated being there and being part of a group of people who are to decide on someone else's future...More importantly, people that outside of the selection interview are very close friends...you forget about that when you are in there but then you remember it when you see the stressed faces that are waiting for the results and the tears streaming down a face whose owner you care about...

It doesnt affect my stands or my decisions inside the selection board but I just live a week-long nightmare after its all over...

Only Consolation is the fact that selection boards Ive been part of in the past, all were trying to take the best decision...whether it turns out to be that or not one year later...

  A forward I got...
Well, I am posting here a forward I got...well the most interesting part of it is the one posted here. I easily spotted the alleged verse of the Koran as being fake through the use of words and the way its expressed...its the 11th aya of the 9th sura...9/11...I find it funny!!!

And also... This is something to think about! Since America is> typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his> Muslim passages...>> The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)>> Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a> fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the> lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair> still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of> Allah; and there was peace. (Note the verse number!)>>

Replies:

This verse from the Koran does not exist. Please keep spam such as> the email about Iraq "facts" off of the Sig Ep list. I hope our> administrators will keep this list free of stuff like this.   Kefaya Website
Yasmine Khater pointed out that kefaya.com is no longer the website for the Egyptian Kefaya movement and that now it is http://harakamasria.com/. (Khawater asked for recognition on my blog for her help in pointing out my mistake :):) )

This website has both English and Arabic articles, however they are different ones...so the website is of most value to people who read both languages.

It is really impressive how on some of the Arab satellite channels, some individuals are interviewed as a member of the Kefaya movement. I never thought they would have been that open about it...

I am not decided on whether I agree with what this movement is asking for, however, I do admire their determination and courage...and as Assem has been saying lately..."the devil you know is better than the one you dont!"

  Mummies have rights!!!
How many of us would like to get their dead bodies put on display in glass boxes?

Not me at least!!

In this part of the world the sanctity of the dead is amazingly important...We are not supposed to talk while are at cemeteries unless its something meaningful or a verse of the Koran...and many other examples...

However, here in Egypt, we have the mummified remains of our ancestors, some of the greatest people of all time put in glass displays at the Egyptian Museum downin Tahrir, with people just looking at them and probably thinking of how disgusting they look in those forms and most likely no one thinking for once of how this was a man or woman of great impact on the civilised world...

They built pyramids and great tombs to be kept inside of, for people to look at from the outside, to reflect and talk about the greatness of the individual whose buried in that grand structure...

Below is Hawass, the head of the antiquities division (or whatever they call it) and I think with respect to what I am saying...the pic says enough!!

Our ancestors need to be taken back to their homes, their tombs were they belong...they definitely do not belong out here in the world we liv in and definitely not in a glass case in a museum in Tahrir!!
