The Nation's Voice Silenced Again

The independent newspaper "Sawt Al Umma" (or the Nation's Voice) is printed on weekly basis at the Al-Ahram Press, which is government owned but then has an agreement with all indpendent newspapers and opposition ones to not interfere in content and stick to being what is supposed to be a printing press. However, this was different in the last week, Al Ahram press would not print the newspaper issue since there was an article crticizing the President's stand on Gaza. The newspaper was only then printed a few days later when the aricle was removed.

Am I surprised at the incident? No...

I am surprised that this actually does not get to happen a lot more often...this proves the state the ruling troupe is currently in...being criticized by nearly ever Arab and news of limited mutiny in the ranks of the army and the police...they are scared and are starting to clamp down again on the press and doing it directly this time rather than pushing a few NDP lawyers to do it on their behalf in the courts...

Signs of Mubarak's final days? Again probably not...

Just received Rutherford's book Egypt After Mubarak...Will probably not be able to read it soon unfortunately due to the rather more than enough reading I have to do for classes...
